Migrant Voices: FOH at the 2016 Queer Film Festival

18 August, 2016 at 7:00 PM Cineplex Cinema 88 W Pender St Vancouver, BC V6B 6N9 Canada

For the 2016 Vancouver Queer Film Festival, FOH was proud to present the screening of the Migrant Voices series – a legacy event of the festival. Initiated by Carl Meadows and Les Dick as an annual section of VQFF, the series helps to raise awareness of the difficult path faced by queer migrants.

This legacy is what brought FOH to assume the role of presenter for this year. Events like this are intended to align our vision with that of important organizations like Out on Screen. The Vancouver Queer Film Festival creates a dynamic platform for queer cinema that reflects the diversity of our experiences while connecting and strengthening our communities.

The Foundation of Hope presented this year’s film, “Where Are You Going, Habibi?” The film casts a spotlight on the lives of Turkish migrants to Berlin and their German-born progeny. It portrays an example of the cultural differences that still underlie so much intolerance and homophobia in much of the world.

Migrant Voices is a forum of VQFF that will continue to tell the stories of queer migrants. On behalf of all our donors, partners, and the charities we support in Canada, FOH is proud to present the screening of this year’s film. We are the bridge that directly links your individual contributions with the charities in Canada that continue to do such important work to address the plight of LGBT+ refugees, asylum seekers, and newly settled migrants.
